Meet the Pack

The Whole Family

Meet David and his three beloved "kids", American Pit Bull Terriers: Kaimana (CGC), Primadonna (CGC) & shelter rescue, Dalmation/Cattledog mix, Smudge (CGC, NJC).

David was born an animal lover & has been one ever since. As a young child, he could remember being surrounded by the family's pack of 8 dogs, German Shepherd/ Lab mixes, cats, chickens, rabbits, turtles, and birds. At a slightly older age, the family pack consisted of 6 beagle/dachshund mixes, then two Irish Setters, and even a Chihuahua that he named "Goliath". Even with his older sisters' pets who owned Dobermans, Pit Bulls, Akitas, etc, David always felt a connection and has been most comfortable when in the company of dogs/cats. This exposure at a young age has been beneficial as it has allowed David to learn how to be part of a pack, train, and respect the animals. He would even help other neighborhood kids train their dogs, bring strays home and would help the bird that fell out of its nest. With his life enriched with animals, it was no mistake that David's natural ability to connect with people and the animal kingdom would lead him down the eventual career path of animal services.

David was blessed to be the companion of his current pack 7 years ago. His experience with large and strong-breed dogs has served him well, especially when overcoming the stereotype that goes along with owning ABDT's. David has been fortunate to really enjoy puppyhood with Kai and Donna. Furthermore, his infinite patience has allowed him to truly bond with Smudge, his shelter dog that was too scared to even walk out of the kennel when they first met. David's dedication to representing the girls in a positive manner and working through Smudge's issues is apparent, as all 3 dogs took First Place trophies in their respective obedience classes and all three have earned their Canine Good Citizen designations. David and Smudge also actively compete in the great dog sport agility, in which Smudge has earned his first agility title. Kai and David are also working towards competing in obedience trials as well. What's more is that David understands that training is not a game to be won, but is something continuous throughout life.

Five years ago, inspired by the need of getting his pack in controlled social settings with like-minded dog owners, David organized a dog group where he would gather friends for fun social activities with their dogs. Observing the relationship that David had with his pack, people asked him to teach classes and to share his experience, which he was glad to do. To add to David's credibility as a canine consultant and trainer, David is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) and is an official Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for AKC. He has and continues to successfully teach obedience classes and privates.

In 2006, Active Dog Adventures was officially debuted to the public with its unique group adventures. ADA is currently the largest social dog group in in Southern CA, with the current membership count of 450+. David adds, "We have enjoyed the company of hundreds of dog owners looking to get outdoors and get active. It's been a great way to experience new places, meet new people and observe canine behavior". It is with conscientious and careful handling of his own pack, people would often say, "David, you do such a wonderful job in handling your dogs, I would totally trust you with mine". It is with this highly paid compliment, David launched Active Dog Pet Sitting Adventures, where quality in care, safety and fun is his top priority in dealing with all pets. David's background in sales, marketing, customer service and earned B.S. in Business Management, affords him the ability of also providing organized, professional service to his human clientele.

David understands and shares the need to find someone that you can trust with your family member. Therefore, it is with great enthusiasm and love for pets that drives David to continue his work and goal of being your preferred pet service provider.

Training Philosophy

Active Dog Adventures fosters and promotes a scientific based, positive reinforcement training program. We widely utilize the clicker training method to accomplish teaching basic obedience, as well as working through behavioral issues. We also employ the use of the Gentle Leader to assist challenged canines to achieve a calm state of mind; we recognize and understand the unique personality of each pet. Therefore, we tailor training that best brings out your pet's personality through fun, positive, and proven techniques. Our philosophy is to create a thinking dog, where making a mistake is still part of the learning process. We also encourage increased communication by exploring various ways to keep training upbeat and interesting for both humans and canines. Training is a constant part of life, learning, shaping, reframing. Once you stop learning, you stop living.

Mission Statement:
To motivate, stimulate, engage and enhance the relationship w/ our furry friends through mental and physical activity. "Because every dog deserves an adventure"
