Because every dog deserves an Adventure!

Back on the Mend

Since Sunday, I’ve been to the doctor almost every day this week.  It’s not my favorite place to be, but dad always makes sure that he brings something special for me. Koa or Leo (sometimes both) have tagging along to help me feel better.  It’s a hard thing, never ever really being to the doctor except for my annual check up, to being poked all of the time.  I made dad a promise that I would be brave no matter what!

I finally got the bandage removed from my stump during my last visit.  The doctor says that I have a staph infection, which is pretty common for partial amputations.  I have to be on antibiotics for two weeks and dad needs to put Neosporin on my wound too. It’s looking better though and doesn’t bother nearly as much as it did on Sunday!  But because it’s still kind of an open wound and is scabbing over now, I have to wear the semi-cone of shame… boo! It’s semi shameful because it’s a soft cone and I wear it backwards, instead of a satellite dish.  It’s easier for me to get around that way and much more comfortable.

I also need to go back and see the internist to get retested for Cushings.  I’m on medication for it, but they have to see if it’s working the way it should.  The doctor says that if I’m not on the right dosage, it will slow my healing process.  So there’s another day I have to be at the hospital.. sheesh!  At least everyone there is super friendly though and hopefully that will be the last time I need to do that test.

So, with this minor setback, I’m having to wait to start my chemo therapy and I’m not sure what to expect when my new leg comes in next week.  But my dad has been really good about doing my stretches daily, to help get me ready for my leg.  He told me it’s going to be a Dalmation color!

Dad has been cooking a lot of great food for me too – all organic ingredients! He jokes and says that I eat better than he does.  I think it’s true though. This weekend, he’s going to make something awesome in the crockpot for me and he’s going to bake me grain free dog biscuits!  I’m taking more supplements too.  K9 Immunity, wild caught vitamin E pills, Glycoflex III, plus my medication too.  Dad tells me it’s to help my immune system and to keep me as healthy as possible, for as long as possible!  Plus, he always makes sure that I get something special for taking all of those pills.  He’s also been good about taking his human vitamins now too!  He tells me that I continue to be a good influence on him!

All week, I’ve been pretty quiet and not doing much…. boooorrrinnng!!!!  Dad says I need it to get better though. I’m Back on the Mend!   I did get to visit with my neighbors and their kids. I Love kids and people and other dogs and running around and squirrels!  We’ve been doing more puzzles and training games, which I LOVE doing!  Since I’ve been really good all week, dad says we might go for a walk around the lake this weekend…maybe!

For now, I’m enjoying my quiet time, but can’t wait to get active again!  So, get active for me and take your fur baby for an extra stroll tonight!
